Two Birds, One Gorgeous Vase
Two birds sit atop a tree branch, watching quietly over your table.
This silver vase was created using the ancient metalworking technique of repoussé. The design was first laid out in pencil on a sheet of Argentium silver, then engraved so the outlines would remain visible throughout the repoussé process. Once the raised forms were complete, the sheet was turned over to add fine detail to the birds, bringing out the texture and life within the design.
A custom threaded screw was then attached to the base of the silver, allowing it to connect securely to the glass below. Genevieve envisioned the base as a branch of the tree itself, sculpting the design in wax before it was cast in glass by Monarch Glass in Kansas City, MO. The glass insert was blown with care to nestle perfectly into place within the silver birds.
