This whimsical teapot emerged from one of the most unexpected gifts of the pandemic years — the freedom that came with solitude. With the world at a standstill between 2020 and 2022, Genevieve found her creative mind liberated, and turned to copper and brass as her materials of necessity and inspiration.
The teapot presented its own set of challenges from start to finish. The handles are cold-forged brass rod, their hammer marks left deliberately visible — a quiet celebration of the hand that made them. The wing imagery that graces the body was applied through acid etching, each wing then saw-pierced individually and soldered into place with care. Once assembled and polished, a patina was applied to the surface with a specific vision in mind: something textured, tactile, and leathery in appearance — a goal Genevieve feels she fully achieved.
The crowning detail is the lid, where a sterling silver longhorn beetle commands attention. Shaped through chasing and repoussé, the beetle's body catches the light with a dusting of mica powder, lending it an iridescent shimmer that brings it unmistakably to life.
