Oak-ay Dokey! 🍂🐛
This polka-dotted fellow has found his way to the acorn, and he is not going anywhere. He’s the newest pâte de verre caterpillar brooch in my show at @belgerarts in Kansas City, Missouri.
Pin oak leaves, with their pointed lobes and delicate veining, are hand fabricated in argentium silver along with a tiny acorn and a cold-forged branch. The caterpillar is pâte de verre, the French process where fine glass frit is packed by hand into a plaster mold, fired in the kiln, and then the mold is broken away to reveal the glass. His creamy white body is dotted with red and yellow, and little silver beads along his sides make him look like he’s ready to climb. Because each caterpillar is made in its own mold, no two are ever alike. Every one is its own one-of-a-kind creature.
