Worked from a copper disc through chasing and repoussé, the composition is rendered in full three-dimensional relief with remarkable intimacy. The mouse's fur is rendered hair by hair, its rounded body settled comfortably into the composition, its long segmented tail curling lazily across the lower portion of the disc. Beside it, a crocus bulb shows the unmistakable evidence of having been thoroughly enjoyed. Tall crocus leaves rise behind the mouse, their smooth surfaces contrasting beautifully with the fine dimpled texture of the background. A rich patina deepens the shadows and warms the raised surfaces, giving the scene a quiet, timeless quality — the outer ring of the disc left in its natural copper state as a luminous frame around the drama within.
Two coats of wax seal and protect the surface; please note that the wax will slow further oxidation but not prevent it entirely, allowing the piece to continue its gentle, natural evolution over time. A small copper tube soldered to the reverse allows the plaque to hang flush on the wall. It rests equally well as a tabletop object.
