Hemiptera Pendant with 24k Keum-boo
This pendant continues Genevieve's Missouri Flora and Fauna collection, this time turning her attention to the Hemiptera—commonly known as the shield bug or stink bug. Though most people know this insect only for the odor it releases in self-defense, Genevieve has long admired its sculptural form and the subtle colors across its wings and body, finding in it a quiet beauty easy to overlook.
The pendant is fabricated using chasing and repoussé, an ancient metalworking technique in which the fine silver is worked from both sides to raise and shape the bug's wings and body in dimension. The wings are further embellished using keum-boo, a traditional Korean technique for fusing 24k yellow gold sheet to fine silver, adding a warm gleam across the surface.
The pendant hangs from a delicate sterling silver cable chain.
Available as a single pendant, or as part of a suite with the Hemiptera Earrings at a slight discount when purchased together.
