These pieces mark an early and defining exploration — a study in the quiet drama of a single flower, rendered again and again in sterling silver, each one cut by hand in a stylized form and entirely unique.
The surface of every flower in the series tells its own story. Chased lines trace the natural architecture of each petal, while the centers are adorned with granulation — tiny spheres of 24-karat yellow gold fused directly onto sterling silver, a notoriously demanding marriage of metals. Granulation itself is among the most ancient and painstaking techniques in the metalsmith's vocabulary, and to achieve it on sterling silver, rather than the fine silver or gold on which it is more traditionally practiced, required years of self-taught experimentation. The result is a scattering of warm gold points that seem to glow from within the flower's frosted surface — that luminous matte finish achieved by heating and quenching the silver to draw fine silver to the surface. The back petals, by contrast, are brought to a high polish, creating a quiet interplay of light and texture with every movement.
The necklace is composed of individually fabricated flowers, cold joined and graduated in size from a commanding center blossom down to the smallest flower, which serves as the clasp itself. Worn, it drapes as a continuous garland of silver blossoms, 22 inches in length.
The brooch and earring set carries the same language into wearable form. The brooch features a cold-forged decorative silver pin running through the flower — both functional and sculptural — while the earrings echo the series in miniature.
