Perfume, Genevieve believes, has always been a little otherworldly — a scent that can transport, transform, carry someone somewhere else entirely. Created early in her career, in the 1980s, this small vessel takes that idea literally. Four sphered vessels rise on jointed, tripod legs that read like landing gear, as though the piece had just touched down from some distant orbit. Granulated 24k yellow gold studs the sterling silver surfaces like scattered stars, while 18k yellow gold wire traces the connections between each form. At the top, a hidden stopper lifts away to reveal a small chamber where perfume can be kept.
This piece would go on to spark an entire body of work — the Planetesimals series — making it something of a point of origin in Genevieve's exploration of celestial, otherworldly form.
