Bon appétit, Nibbles! 🍃🐛
This little fellow is dining on mulberry leaves and in no hurry to finish. He’s another new pâte de verre caterpillar brooch in my show at @belgerarts in Kansas City, Missouri.
His branch is cold-forged argentium silver, hammered by hand for texture, with mulberry leaves that curl and ripple the way real ones do. Nibbles himself is pâte de verre, the French process where fine glass frit is packed by hand into a plaster mold, fired in the kiln, and then the mold is broken away to reveal the glass. His body is banded in plum red and lime green, and you can see where he’s already made his way through the first leaf. Because each caterpillar is made in its own mold, no two are ever alike. Every one is its own one-of-a-kind creature.
